OVENS

60 ripping minutes of complete Suburban Paranoia and pure pop genius.  Kids that grew up soaking in the Slap-A-Ham/625 Thrash aesthetic, all the while secretly learning every Weezer, Dino Jr, Melvins and Beatles song they could. Outstanding.

The Party Of Helicopters

this is the best band in the universe.

The most melodic guitar wizardy ever painted on top of a furiously distorted bass/pounded the shit out of drums rhythm section. The vocals. The vocals. The. vocals. The Vocals weave in and out of each other, schizophrenically stating something over and over, questioning, reassuring, obsessing, saying it just to say it, singing it just to sing it. Collapsing words on top of other words, searching for the right melody until all your thoughts manage to line up for that one beautiful moment, only to have them scattered again into a hundred different gorgeous directions. Truly one of the greatest, most underrated punk rock bands of our time.

Dead And Gone

Dead And Gone were the best band to ever exist.

To me, they expressed the depressed and confused inner monologue of the person wallowing in late 20th century America better than anybody else. A perfect union of lyrical and musical themes, no one aspect of the band ever really overpowered another. The drums pounding maddening marching rhythms on the toms only to switch tempo, time signature and dynamics at the drop of a hat. The crooked and demented basslines hinting at melody while it's tentactles rear up, wrapping itself around your throat and dragging you back down into its darkness. The guitar like jagged icicles, like cold sheets of rain, like breathing your last breaths of air as you lay dying on the frozen tundra. The vocals, the voice in your head questioning all you've seen, all you've learned, all you've loved, pleading for sweet release from a life you've gone crazy trying to comprehend.
Perfection.
